The players of Real Sociedad beat Barcelona 1-0 in the match of the 13th round of Primera with the assistance of Croatian national team member Luka Sučić.
With this victory, Sociedad advanced by five places and is now eighth, while Barca recorded its second defeat of the season, but kept the top of the table.
It was the Basque club’s first home win against Barca since April 2016 when it was also 1-0.
Barca was the first to hit the net, in the 13th minute Robert Lewandowski received an excellent pass in the penalty area and scored. However, referee Guillermo Cuadra canceled the goal after VAR assistance. It was an incredible millimeter of the Polish striker’s rear that left great doubts.
Sociedad responded by scoring in the 33rd minute, this time everything was clean. Barca’s goalkeeper Inaki Pena shot the ball to the middle of the field to Zubimendi, who headed it back to Luka Sučić, and the Croatian representative headed the ball into the penalty area, where Sheraldo Becker did well to score for 1-0.
In stoppage time of the first half, Mikel Oyarzabal had a chance after a quick counterattack and an excellent play by Becker, but he shot wide. Oyarzabal threatened dangerously in the 52nd minute, but Pena emerged as the winner.
The visitors could have equalized in the 59th minute, but Fermin Lopez shot poorly from 12.13 meters. In the continuation of the match, Barcelona pressed, but without significant opportunities and in the end it remained 1-0.
Barca was weakened by the absence of young star Lamine Yamal, who suffered a severe blow to his right ankle in the match against Crvena Zvezda. The Spanish international could also miss Friday’s Nations League games in Denmark and Monday November 18 against Switzerland. The young 17-year-old winger has scored six goals and provided eight assists in 16 games with Barca in La Liga and the Champions League.
Barcelona leads with 33 points, Real is second with six points behind, but with a game less, while Atletico Madrid is third with 26 points. Followed by Villarreal (24), Osasuna (21), Athletic Bilbao (20)…
