Visit to the Jura World of Coffee
(chm)
With 19 participants of the insieme träff Solothurn, we took the train to Niederbuchsiten on Saturday, October 26th, where we arrived at the Jura company after a short walk on the motorway. We received a very friendly welcome.
Then we immersed ourselves in the world of coffee experiences. A tour of a walk-in coffee machine gave us a lot of information about coffee, where it comes from, how many varieties there are, how roasting was discovered by chance, how many cups are drunk per year per person, how coffee came to Europe, the… Cultivation in Holland first failed, how the first fully automatic coffee machines were created and much more. We met a camel and stood in the middle of a bazaar. We were also impressed by the story of the company’s founder and learned that when the workers had to work longer, the boss’s wife treated them to sweets – who else does something like that happen to these days? Finally, “Rubia”, the coffee bean, who led us through the exhibition, showed us an adventurous film. Then we went through the “Walk of Fame”, where we were able to marvel at Roger Federer in life size and of course we took the opportunity to take a photo with the famous tennis player. We were able to admire some of his trophies, including the one from Wimbledon. It was much smaller than the one always shown on TV. We listened to interviews and learned more about the “Roger Federer Fondation”. The coffee shop had lots of fine things that encouraged people to buy. Next, a delicious coffee was served, with a delicious “Gipfeli” on the side, of course.
In the fog and cool temperatures we hiked to the Gäu-Oberbuchsiten model flying club. We were invited to enjoy our picnic in the tent that was heated especially for us. Here too we were treated to fine coffee. We were allowed to watch as the model airplanes completed their takeoffs, loops and landings. Thank you very much for the hospitality and the conversations.
Then we walked to Oensingen, where we took the “Bipperlisi” comfortably back to Solothurn, satisfied and with many beautiful impressions in our backpacks.
