An equipment room becomes a bar, a sports hall becomes a ballroom and a meeting place for well-wishers and partygoers: On November 30th, the Waldshut gymnastics club celebrates its 175th birthday and invites current and former members, their families, all friends of the club and interested citizens to a big one Festive afternoon in the Hochrhein sports hall in Waldshut.
Offers to participate and watch
From 3 p.m. until late in the evening there will be celebrations with opportunities to join in, watch and socialize. “It is our first big festival in decades, we want to show who we are and what great offers we have,” says chairman Daniel Kistner. He and a team of around ten people organize the festival.
The team includes representatives of the core sports that the gymnastics club offers: gymnastics, fencing and badminton. On the festival day, visitors young and old can try out these sports as they please. Experienced trainers help and give tips.
Gymnasts also do the big cartwheel
The evening program focuses on performances by various groups from the gymnastics club and awards. A guest group with very special sports equipment will also be there: a cycling group from Whyl/Freiburg will skilfully showcase the attractiveness of this sports equipment.
Until about ten years ago, the Waldshut gymnastics club had its own cycling group, but had to give it up because there were no instructors. The goal is to build such a group again. The club would even pay for the coaching training.
Many committed volunteers
The fact that the Waldshut gymnastics club has been successful for 175 years and can present itself as a lively, diverse club on the festival day is thanks to many committed volunteers. Some of them, who have worked for the club in various positions for decades, will be honored on the evening of the ceremony. This also in the name of the Markgräfler Hochrhein Turngau, of which the gymnastics club is a member. Representatives from Turngau will be on site.
Of course, music will not be missing on the festival day. A DJ will provide the musical background and, in addition to the bar offerings, there will be coffee and cake in the afternoon. A “spruced up” Hochrhein sports hall will underline the festive atmosphere: “We will create a nice ambience and also do something in terms of lighting,” promises chairman Daniel Kistner.
