More and more footballers are switching to “walking football” in their 50s. Now the German Olympic Sports Confederation, in collaboration with the German Medical Association, has awarded the “Sport pro Health” quality seal to the age-appropriate version of football. “Walking Football” is now one of the prevention offerings in the German sports landscape.
“By awarding the seal, the DFB and its regional associations are breaking new ground,” says DFB Vice President Professor Dr. Silke Sinning. “Walking football is not only a wise choice when you are older. Regular participation increases general well-being, promotes physical, mental and social health and, among other things, prevents obesity, back pain and cardiovascular diseases. We are now calling on the clubs in the country to create more walking football offers.” If you have any further questions, contact persons are available in all regional associations.
In walking football, players are only allowed to walk – that is, one foot must remain on the ground at all times -, passes or shots on goal may only be made flat and duels are prohibited. Women and men play together. It is currently estimated that almost 600 clubs offer the opportunity to play walking football with them.
Walking football has been offered at SV 06 Lehrte for 5 years. Training takes place every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the club’s Volksbank Soccer Arena at Mielestrasse 7. The contact person for this is Harald Berwing on 01573/57 54 988.
