Wander Franco arrested for dispute with weapons in the Dominican Republic

Wander Franco was arrested during an altercation involving weapons on Monday. According to an ESPN report, The incident occurred in San Juan de La Maguana, a place near Santo Domingo.

Police sources confirm that Franco and an anonymous woman are detained for questioning after the incident. The Dominican confronted another subject in which they both drew their weapons, but did not exchange shots.

The police detailed that Franco could carry a weapon if he had a license to do so and had it registered. Police could not confirm Monday whether Franco met any of those requirements.

So far, no further details have emerged about whether he will remain detained, just one month before his trial for sexual abuse against a young minor begins.

The sexual abuse case of Wander Franco

The Dominican shortstop, who is on administrative leave indefinitely, will be tried in the Dominican Republic on December 12.

This is a separate case involving charges of sexual abuse, sexual exploitation against a minor and human trafficking.

The sentence in this case can be up to 20 years. This comes after he was accused of having sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl.

Franco cannot leave the Dominican Republic after being released on parole during the case. Although he is free to travel around the country, according to reports.

The court summoned Franco and the girl’s mother for trial after an investigation that opened in 2022. The case will be heard by a panel of three or five judges.

He is also under investigation by MLB under its domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy until the case is resolved.
