Warner Bros. Discovery has halted its bid to win the NBA’s live streaming package for the 2025/26 season and beyond, ending the partnership that began in 1984.
The media company filed a lawsuit against the NBA in July, alleging that the league failed to allow it to use so-called matching rights to broadcast live matches.
This comes after the league chose three media partners: “Disney,” “Comcast NBC,” and “Amazon Prime Video” to be its American distributors for live matches for 11 years, starting next season, in a deal valued at approximately $77 billion.
This officially ends Turner Sports’ relationship with the American League, which has continued for more than 40 years, as a live broadcast of matches in the United States after this season.
The Basketball Association decided to dissolve this partnership with the unit of the Warner Bros. group due to its weak confidence in the future of cable television networks in attracting a younger audience, with a preference for broadcasting through various technology companies.
