Former Uruguayan football star Diego Forlan said that he feels “privileged and has nothing to prove” when he plays his first professional tennis match.
Forlan will play doubles matches in the Montevideo tournament as part of the Challenger tournaments scheduled from November 11 to 17, alongside Argentine Federico Correa.
Forlan, the former Manchester United and Spanish Atletico Madrid striker, said in a press conference on Wednesday, “I enjoy tennis like a little boy, and playing a professional tournament makes me feel privileged.”
He continued, “I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to play tennis at the professional level. It is a sport that I practice and I like, but I am not as experienced in it as is the case in football,” noting that his goal is “to spend a good time on the field.”

He concluded, “I am trying to prepare in the best way possible, but it is clear to me that I am not at the same level as the professional players, and the age difference between me and them is clear.”
Forlan’s career saw him being crowned English Premier League champion with Manchester United in 2003, and he was chosen as the best player in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He also won the European League with Atletico Madrid in 2010.
