“We are early on the Olympic Village”

“We are early on the Olympic Village”

“In Milan, I can sleep peacefully while working on the Olympics. The Olympic Village is even ahead of schedule and I’m also on time with the Fair. The Fair was another winning idea.” Giovanni Malagò, president of CONI, said this on the sidelines of the ceremony for the delivery of the certificate of participation to the Lombard athletes who participated in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The ceremony

The athletes who took part in the Paris competitions received the certificate of participation today in the presence of the governor of Lombardy, Attilio Fontana, and Giovanni Malagò at Palazzo Lombardia. It was a symbolic gesture of passing the baton towards Milan-Cortina 2026. There are 70 athletes born in Lombardy and 10 who grew up and reside in the Olympic patrol region, and 35 Paralympians who received the recognition.

“Lombardy has achieved extraordinary goals and has confirmed, once again, absolute excellence also in sport – said Fontana -. The Olympic and Paralympic athletes have raised the name of our land high by demonstrating tenacity, talent, commitment and perseverance: typical qualities of our people that they have been able to express at the highest levels on the Olympic stage. For us it is a pride to be able to thank them and reward them on behalf of all the people of Lombardy.” The governor underlined that Lombardy is the first Olympic region, “considering the record of medals and results”.
