Corrientes continues to shine at the Evita 2024 National Games, held in Mar del Plata, with outstanding performances in both conventional and adapted modalities. Friday was a day of success for the Corrientes delegation, with several gold medals and excellent performance in various disciplines.
Ignacio Cañete was crowned with the gold medal in shot put on the EMDER athletics track, while Luciana Gómez, from Goya, won the bronze medal in discus throw. In addition, mixed badminton added a bronze medal for the province.
Olympic weightlifting was another of the great highlights: for the third consecutive year, Valentina Cabral took gold in her category. Mauricio Mareco also won the gold medal in weightlifting, while Aníbal Fernández took the bronze.
The adapted athletes also had an outstanding participation, achieving gold and silver medals, which allowed them to reach the silver cup in athletics. Additionally, they excelled in table tennis and Boccia.
Medals in adapted athletics:
- Oro: María Paz Acuña Sandoval (shot put), Josías Piedrabuena (100 meters and 1500 meters), Sebastián Flores (100 meters wheelchair), and Bruno Galarza (100 meters).
- Plata: Ruth Gallardo (100 meters), Sahid Paredes (100 meters), and Bruno Galarza (1500 meters).
For this Saturday, new definitions were expected in WT taekwondo, with competitors Abel Balbastro and Gabriel Rodríguez from Santo Tomé fighting for the podium.
Jorge Terrile, Secretary of Sports of Corrientes, spoke with Radio Sudamericana and was very satisfied with the achievements obtained. “We have had a very good performance”he highlighted.
In addition, he mentioned that the Corrientes delegation, made up of 360 athletes, would return in the early hours of Sunday. “We are among the six best in the country in rugby and Olympic weightlifting, with three golds and one silver”he added.
Lastly, Terrile stressed the importance of ensuring a safe return for all young athletes. “The task is completed when each young person returns home, fulfilling our responsibility to care for them while they were away from home.”he concluded.
