Colombia remains at the top of the general medal table at the close of the third day of competitions, accumulating a total of 17 gold medals, eight silver and two bronze. The day was marked by outstanding performances in team sports, where rugby 7s and basketball 3×3 managed to add the four possible medals between both branches.
The ‘Tucanes’ took the podium at the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Complex, in Lima. The women’s team was crowned champion after beating Chile in the final with a score of 17 – 5. For its part, the men’s team, the Colombian team delivered its game and attitude on the field, but fell again against Chile (22 – 5). .
Laineker Quiñónez won the first gold medal for Colombia in billiards, after beating Abrahan Martínez of Peru 9-8 in the final of the individual 9-ball pool modality. The competition took place at the Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes School in Ayacucho, where Colombia continues to compete in the mixed modalities, with important duels scheduled for tomorrow.
In the weightlifting discipline, Colombia added two medals that reinforced its position in the general medal table. Santiago Cossio was crowned champion in the men’s over 109 kg category, achieving an impressive total of 393 kg. For her part, Yairsen Sofía Tysforod won the silver medal in the women’s over 87 kg category with a record of 243 kg, finishing behind the Chilean Elizabeth Pavez.
In 3×3 basketball, Colombia added two medals to the national medal table. In the women’s branch, the team led by Valentina López achieved the silver medal, despite the absence of Yulani Paz due to injury. In the men’s branch, José David Lozano stood out by leading the offensive that secured bronze in an exciting match against Chile.
