Naby Keita has been able to train with the U23s again since October
Keita surprisingly moved from Liverpool to Bremen in the summer of 2023, but did not make it due to ongoing injury problems. Last season he only played 107 minutes. In April, the 29-year-old midfielder was refused a place in the squad against Bayer Leverkusen because he was not expected to be in the starting line-up. Keita was subsequently suspended. Since mid-October, Keita has been allowed to train with the Bremen U23 again, but has not been able to play in games.
Captain Marco Friedl supports the bosses’ approach: “It’s difficult, it’s the people responsible who made this decision. I think Naby realized his mistake and contacted us again briefly. I understand both sides. Naby , who says he wants to train again after such a long time, but also those in charge. It’s a decision that they made as a team, and that’s how it is.”
