West Ham star Lucas Paqueta could be on the brink of a shock return to Brazil in January, according to reports.
Paqueta arrived at the London Stadium for £36.5 million plus add-ons (according to BBC Sport) in the summer of 2022 and quickly established himself as a key player.
To date, the 54-time Brazil international has recorded 15 goals and 14 assists in 97 appearances in all competitions, including one goal and four assists to help West Ham win the UEFA Conference in 2023.
But this season, Paqueta’s form has plummeted, with fans frustrated by a series of lethargic performances.
It’s no surprise given that the 27-year-old is currently fighting gambling charges that could even see him banned from football for life if found guilty.

With his best form behind him and West Ham needing to raise funds after a heavy summer of spending, Paqueta could be a prime candidate for the club to sell this coming January.
In fact, according to The Sun, Brazilian team Botafogo – currently leading the Serie A table – is preparing an offer for Paqueta.
Furthermore, West Ham are understood to be showing real interest in Man City youngster James McAtee.
McAtee enjoyed two solid seasons on loan at Sheffield United but has played just 311 minutes in all competitions this campaign, with Guardiola giving him just one minute in the Premier League.
The England youth international could be available for £20m in January and if he joins, West Ham could be comfortable authorizing Paqueta’s departure.
West Ham are currently 14th in the Premier League table after a difficult 11-game start under Julen Lopetegui.
However, the Hammers are just seven points off third place in a tight table, traveling to Newcastle United in their first match after the international break.
