MEXICO CITY, November 2 (EL UNIVERSAL).- The recent “party” unleashed by the Los Angeles Dodgers—after winning the Major League World Series—has brought to mind characters who were part of the historic Los Angeles ninth .
One of them is the Mexican player, Julio Urías, who this year could have won his second title—in the Major Leagues—with the Dodgers jersey. The first was in a not-so-distant 2020, when the Los Angeles team beat the Tamba Bay Rays, breaking a drought that accompanied them for 32 years.
Among stories of what “could have been”, the truth is that Urías’ career was marked by the domestic violence he exercised against his wife; an attack that was captured on video.
It was the night of September 3, 2023 when, in the vicinity of the BMO Stadium, Urías pulled, pushed and threw a left foot at his then partner.
This was not the first time that the player used violence of this type. Years ago, in 2019, he was arrested for arguing with his wife in a public parking lot. He did not face charges, but did have to complete a domestic violence counseling program. And he was suspended by Major League Baseball (MLB) for twenty games.
Hence, since Urías’ face disappeared from the Dodgers, questions arose about what will become of his future, marked by said violence.
What happened to Julio Urías?
At present, Julio Urías remains a free agent. No major opportunities in the near future.
Although rumors arose that he was placed in the Japanese league, it remained just that: murmurs.
Regarding the possibility of playing in Mexico, the president of the Mexican Baseball League—Horacio de la Vega—closed the doors; declaring in a recent interview with MVS that “no player who has that type of questions and sentences has a place to come to Mexico.”
Legally, Urías is serving a sentence of 36 months of probation, 30 days of community work. Added to the payment of compensation to the victim and one more course of domestic violence on his record.
