It has been available online and free of charge for almost ten months for all members interested in badminton within the DBV, its regional associations and their clubs – the new DBV framework training concept (RTK) online. A lot has happened since then: many regional associations have spread the RTK, trained trainers in further training both “live” and online and integrated it into their own training or training concept.
The aim of the RTK is to present a framework for the long-term development of our young players, which not only ensures holistic development in the training stages, but is intended to enable later top performance. To ensure this, the RTK is a living project: feedback, discussions and further development should flow into the RTK. For example, at the BSP-NSP meeting in Hamburg or the DBV speaker workshop in Hanover, not only were the connections and details of the training stages presented and discussed, but points for further development were also recorded.
One of these points was the splitting of the extensive training stage “FUNdamentals” into two different stages, each with the same objective. The aim is to convey the joy and fun of intensive exercise, the introduction and commitment to the sport of badminton as well as the development and initiation of numerous basic techniques.
This split is not only intended to separate the “FUNdamentals” into two more digestible chunks that make it clear to the trainer what training content should and can be taught in the first steps. The original training stage covered a period of up to four years (“U7/U9”).
Furthermore, the breakdown makes it clear once again that you not only have up to 6 years to go through the first three stages of training, but that you have also imparted 50% of the RTK content – and are therefore already a good badminton player or – is a player. The training stages of the RTK are deliberately designated as such and represent content stages that build on each other, regardless of entry, biological or calendar age. The specified age groups only reflect an “ideal image” and an orientation.
The reason for this is, among other things, that the first motor “golden” learning window ends with the onset of puberty and ideally all badminton techniques have already been trained before – if they were not consciously mastered or perfected. If you look at the content up to and including the “Learn To Train” training stage, these are skills of very good badminton players.
The “GAMEbasics” training stage is new. The name also emphasizes that the focus is still on games, fun and basics – but more in the direction of a targeted game: badminton. The training stage follows the “FUNdamentals”. The content was not only split up, but in the first step a total of 12 new content articles were added in the elements of technology and tactics and the goals were adjusted or expanded.
But that’s not all: further additions that are intended to support the work of trainers in the clubs and bases will be implemented this year by Diemo Ruhnow, who was responsible for launching the RTK in 2024. Therefore – stay tuned and help bring the RTK to the grassroots: it is free to use, the registration details will be sent automatically after registering for the RTK newsletter: https://rtk.badminton.sport-iat.de.
