National excitement begins in men’s basketball. The Crescent-Stars will play 2 critical matches against Hungary on the way to the European Championship. The national team will play their first match against Hungary in Istanbul on Friday, November 22. The match at the Basketball Development Center will start at 20.30.
Türkiye will duke it out with Hungary, this time away, on Monday, November 25th. The referee will throw the ball into the air at 20.00 GMT in the match to be played at the Savaria Arena in Szombathely, Hungary.
NATIONAL TEAM IS MEETING
The National Men’s Basketball Team will meet on Monday, November 18, as part of the preparations for the Hungary matches.
The national team will meet with members of the press at the media day at the Basketball Development Center on Tuesday, November 19.
WE HAVE TO WIN BOTH MATCHES
The National Team will have the right to participate in the 2025 European Championship if they win the 2 matches against Hungary.
The Crescent-Stars are in the 2nd place in Group B, where Italy, Iceland and Hungary competed, as a result of 1 win and one defeat in the 2 matches they played. The Crescent-Stars lost 87-80 away to Italy in their first match, and defeated Iceland 76-75 at home in the second match.
If Türkiye prevails over Hungary in both matches, it will achieve 3 wins and will qualify to take part in the finals.
The top 3 teams in the groups that do not include the teams that will host the championship (Greek Cyprus, Latvia, Poland, Finland) in the qualifiers will receive a ticket to the 2025 European Championship.
ERGİN ATAMAN WILL LEAD THE TEAM
National Men’s Basketball Team Head Coach Ergin Ataman will be at the head of the team in the first match against Hungary on November 22.
Ataman will take part in the national match with the special permission of the club president Dimitris Giannakopoulos, although the Greek Panathinaikos AKTOR team, of which he is the head coach, has a match against Zalgiris in the THY Europa League on the same day.
FIRST MEN’S BASKETBALL NATIONAL MATCH AT BASKETBALL DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The match between the National Basketball Team and Hungary will be the first men’s national team match to be played at the Basketball Development Center, Turkey’s basketball base.
The official opening of the Basketball Development Center was held on September 29, with the Presidential Cup match between Fenerbahçe Beko and Anadolu Efes.
The match between the National Women’s Basketball Team and Romania on November 7 was recorded as the first national match played at a basketball base.
