Why isn’t Novak Djokovic at the World Cup?

ATP Finals, Tennis: Why isn’t Novak Djokovic at the World Championships?

The Serb announced his cancellation on November 5th via Instagram. Due to an injury he will not take part in Turin. “It’s an honor to qualify for the finals. I was really looking forward to it, but due to an ongoing injury I won’t be playing,” Djokovic wrote.

The Grand Slam record winner had already canceled the Paris Masters the week before. At the end of the season it was already clear that tournaments like the ATP Finals were no longer of great importance to him.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m done with these tournaments in my career,” he said of the World Championships. In late autumn, the 24-time major champion only wants to concentrate on the Grand Slams and the Davis Cup.

The statement continued: “Apologies to everyone who planned to see me play. I wish all players a great tournament.”

For the first time since 2001, the World Cup will be played without a player from the Big Three. Roger Federer ended his career in 2021, Rafael Nadal is withdrawing after the Davis Cup final tournament at the end of November and is not qualified for Turin.
