Eltville am Rhein sets a new highlight in wine history: The top-class wine collection “The Eltville Collection” was presented with an exclusive release tasting.
In cooperation with the British wine dealer Berry Brothers & Rudd, winemaker Eva Fricke is showing the 2023 vintages as well as rare rarities from the 1950s.
The venue was the historic Domaine Schloss Eltz, where Dr. Karl Graf Eltz and wine historian Daniel Deckers gave insights into the traditional history of Rheingau viticulture.
A world-class heritage
The Domaine Schloss Eltz played a key role in Rheingau viticulture until the 1970s. Under Johann Jakob Graf zu Eltz, the domain’s sweet wines achieved worldwide recognition.
Despite the cessation of operations in the late 1970s, the wines are still considered sought-after collector’s items and shape the reputation of the Rheingau.
Sustainability as a vision
Since 2019, Eva Fricke has been managing the preserved vineyards of Eltz Castle according to strict organic and biodynamic standards.
She is also working with Geisenheim University on an innovative Vitiforst project that breaks up monocultures by planting trees and sustainably regenerates the soil. This approach is a forward-looking model for viticulture in times of climate change.
Masterpieces from the Rheingau
Eva Fricke combines historical grape varieties and the special terroir of the Rheingau with modern approaches. Their wines have already received top international ratings, including two 100-point reviews from wine critic James Suckling.
With “The Eltville Collection”, Fricke focuses on classic Rheingau Rieslings such as Spätlese, Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese, which perfectly combine tradition and innovation.
Exclusivity with future perspectives
The collection is only available in limited quantities in Germany – a few hundred bottles are available to customers and upscale restaurants every year.
It is distributed worldwide exclusively by Berry Brothers & Rudd. The 2023 vintages can already be purchased en primeur before the official market launch on February 13, 2025.
Conclusion
With “The Eltville Collection” Eltville is writing a new chapter in wine history – a harmonious combination of tradition, sustainability and international excellence…
