Kocalon posted an emotional message on his Instagram account in which he announced his retirement from football. He said: “I did not know how to start this message, but I will do so by thanking everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the support you have given me throughout this time.”
He added: “I arrived at the Real Madrid Youth Academy in the summer of 2016 when I was a child with a backpack full of dreams and I was very happy. The truth is that my life completely changed on September 6, 2022, when I suffered a serious injury in a Champions League youth match.”
The 19-year-old continued: “After several complications, this injury forced me to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to football… During the past two years, I struggled physically and mentally with all my might and tried everything in my power to enjoy this sport again, but it was not possible to do so.” It is possible to recover.”
He added: “After all, I think I was really lucky to be part of the best club in the world and to live a dream. I learned and matured as a person and as a player. I will carry with me for the rest of my life the values that instilled in me, and of course football taught me in every victory and in every defeat: You always have to overcome obstacles and keep fighting to overcome them. These lessons will be a part of my life forever.”
The young midfielder suffered a cruciate ligament tear in September 2022 in a match against Scottish club Celtic in the U-19 Champions League. During the surgery, the young player’s joint was infected with bacteria, so his injury worsened and he was forced to retire from football.
It should be noted that Cocalon was promoted to Real Madrid’s senior levels, but he did not play any matches with the Royal Club’s first team.
