Jannick Sinner (Italy), world number one in men’s tennis singles, won the final match of this year’s Men’s Professional Tennis (ATP) Tour.
Sinner defeated Taylor Fritz (5th place, USA) 2-0 (6-4, 6-4) in the singles final of the Nito ATP Finals held in Turin, Italy on the 18th and lifted the trophy.
Sinner reached the finals of this competition last year, but lost to Novak Djokovic (6th place, Serbia) and finished as runner-up.
Sinner, who had previously won the Australian Open and the US Open and became the first Italian player to be ranked number one in the world at the end of the year in ATP Tour singles, further consolidated his position as the world’s best by conquering the final match of the ATP Tour. He was also the first Italian player to win the final singles match on the ATP Tour and the first singles champion born in the 2000s.
After the match, Sinner said, “It is very meaningful to become the first Italian player to win a singles title. I think it is the result of thorough preparation and effort in each match.”
Meanwhile, Djokovic did not participate in this tournament, and Carlos Alcaras (3rd place, Spain), who is considered one of the ‘big two’ in men’s tennis along with Sinner, was eliminated in the group stage.
