Carlos Alcaras (3rd place, Spain) was eliminated in the group stage of the Neito ATP Finals (total prize money of $15.25 million), the final match of the men’s professional tennis (ATP) season.

Alcaras lost 0-2 (6-7 4-6) to Alexander Zverev (2nd place, Germany) in the 3rd match of the Newcom Group singles group stage on the 6th day of the tournament held in Turin, Italy on the 15th (local time). Alcaras, with 1 win and 2 losses, finished third in its group and failed to advance to the semifinals, where the top two players from each group advance.

The ATP Finals is a competition in which the top eight singles players and the top eight doubles groups who have performed well throughout the year participate.

Alcaras, who won the men’s singles at the French Open and Wimbledon tennis tournaments this year, was considered a candidate for the title along with Jannik Sinner (No. 1, Italy), who swept the Australian Open and US Open this year, but failed to get past the group stage. Alcaras reached the semifinals in this competition last year.

Alcaras, who was eliminated, will prepare to participate in the Davis Cup, a national competition held in Malaga, Spain, starting on the 19th. Rafael Nadal (155th, Spain) is scheduled to appear in his final game in the Davis Cup. “I will do my best to help Nadal retire with a win,” Alcaras said after being eliminated.

Meanwhile, the semifinals of this year’s ATP Finals will be played between Sinner and Kasper Ruud (7th, Norway) and Zverev and Taylor Fritz (5th, USA). Novak Djokovic (6th place, Serbia) was eligible to participate, but did not participate due to physical condition.
