Olympic tennis champion Zheng Qinwen has reached the final of the WTA Finals in Riyadh. She won her semifinal against Barbora Krejčíková on Friday (November 8th, 2024). In the final on Saturday she will face the American Coco Gauff.
The Chinese won her semi-final against the Czech Wimbledon champion Krejčíková 6:3, 7:5. Gauff then defeated world number one Aryna Sabalenka 7:6 (7:4), 6:3.

World number one Sabalenka makes too many mistakes
After an exciting first set, which Gauff (20) won in the tiebreak, the favored Belarusian made more mistakes. Gauff, third in the world rankings and, at 20, the youngest participant in the WTA Finals, converted her first match point.

Zheng, number seven in the world, had previously defeated her 28-year-old opponent in 1:41 hours. In the preliminary round she finished Group A with two wins and one defeat in second place behind Sabalenka (26).
In addition to the Olympic victory in Paris and the final at the Australian Open, she won two WTA singles titles, most recently at the end of October at the 500 tournament in Tokyo.
