The German judo student national team was extremely successful at the World University Games 2021 in Chengdu last year. With six medals (5 individual medals / 1 team medal), the judoka accounted for more than 20 percent of all German podium places. This result is a great incentive to win medals at the home competitions in Essen next year. “In Essen we want to underline that judo is one of the most successful student sports in Germany,” says Moritz Belmann, head of the judo discipline at the adh.
Because of this, the sports nomination criteria for the WUG 2025 are based on the criteria of the previous year. In addition to the general requirements in the area of student status, recognition of anti-doping rules and age, national and international placements in sports are necessary for a nomination. These sports criteria have now been approved and published by the adh board. “We want to use the nomination criteria to ensure that our athletes meet the requirements of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and are able to achieve a final placement,” explains Belmann. In addition to the German Championships, which took place in Stuttgart, the German University Championships (07.12.-08.12. / Duisburg) are also national waypoints. Internationally interested students have to prove themselves at European Cups, Opens and the IJF World Series.
