EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO. – The owner of Yordy Cabrera Baseball Academy, accused of the death of the young baseball prospect Ismael Ureña Pérez, 14, broke his silence and defended himself against the serious accusations against him, ensuring that he is innocent of giving the deceased player steroids for horses.
In video, Cabrera denied having had any relationship with the young man’s tragic death and denied rumors about alleged threats to the deceased’s family.
“I deeply regret what happened, but I had nothing to do with this,” Cabrera said in his statement, emphasizing that the truth will come to light during the course of the investigations.
He said that he is a man who gave his life to the Lord, that his name is clean, “both in baseball and in life itself.”
Cabrera affirmed that not even he, when he was in professional baseball, used steroids, clarifying that there is evidence that they did that proves this.
The victim’s family claims that Ismael began to experience health problems shortly after starting his training at the Yordy Cabrera Baseball Academy, located in Santo Domingo Este. According to reports, the teenager alerted his mother about his illnesses before being hospitalized.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Ureña Pérez, while the sports community and Dominican society demand justice.
