Matilda House, which officially opened its doors in Empoli in 2019, was made possible through the collaborative efforts of local entrepreneurs and associations.This second-stage reception home provides a safe haven for survivors, offering them crucial support in rebuilding their lives.The focus is on empowering them to achieve financial independence through tailored training and job search assistance. Recognizing the profound impact of violence on children, Matilda House also provides specialized support to help them heal from trauma and overcome the invisible scars of witnessing abuse.
Eleonora Gallerini, president of both the Riunite Public Assistance of Empoli and Castelfiorentino and the Lilith Women’s Help Center, emphasized the significance of this journey.”Each year since 2014, we’ve presented projects aimed at assisting women and children who have experienced violence,” she explained. “The generosity of our community has enabled us to provide vital aid. In 2019, we reached a pivotal moment by transforming an old hotel into a dedicated second reception home. This space not only offers shelter but also equips women with the tools they need to regain control of their lives.”
Gallerini further highlighted the importance of a lasting ownership structure for Matilda House, ensuring the project’s long-term viability and continued impact.This vision has led to the development of a new Matilda House facility planned for the municipality of Vinci. This expansion will provide even more comprehensive services and create a nurturing environment specifically designed to meet the unique needs of women and children.
The anniversary dinner also showcased the unwavering support from local businesses. Michele and Carlo Cinelli of Denim Srl reaffirmed their commitment, stating, “We remain dedicated to the Matilda House project. This year, we’ve partnered with the Judo Kodokan of Empoli to offer a new self-defense programme.”
