The guests from the US state of Georgia were behind for more than half of the game in New York’s Madison Square Garden, but turned the game around in the third quarter and defended their lead until the end. With De’Andre Hunter, Trae Young and Jalen Johnson, three Hawks players scored more than 20 points. Clint Capela had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
In the semifinals on Saturday, Atlanta will face the Milwaukee Bucks, against whom the Hawks won 119:104 a week ago. The Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets meet in the other semifinal. Both matches and the final on Tuesday will take place in Las Vegas.
The NBA Cup is being held for the second time. The tournament takes place as part of the NBA season; with the exception of the final, the games also count towards the championship. The first event last year was won by the LA Lakers, who defeated the Indiana Pacers in the final.
