The Yonex Belgium Junior Master stopped in Spa this Saturday for the tournament organized by the Badminton club of Verviers. The event celebrated its 10th edition and this year, the list of participants has grown considerably.
It is a must-have at the end of the season! The international youth tournament of the Royal Badminton Club of Verviers reaches its 10th edition. And for his birthday the event is full of registrants! “We hung on for 10 years I think. Today, we are satisfied because we have 115 registered and we returned to the figure for 2019, so before covid. We still struggled for 2 or 3 years, with few registrations but we worked hard to maintain the tournament and that was a good thing because today we are back in more normal numbers”smiles the organizer and president of the Royal Badminton Club of Verviers, Françoise Kaiser.
“This is the first year in 4 years where all the women’s singles categories are complete”
To mark the occasion, the organizing club is better represented than last year. From the U11 to U17 categories, there are 23 of them representing the Verviers colors loud and clear. But the other positive point of this 10th edition of the tournament is the female participation. It is booming. Enough to simplify the organization of tables. “This is the first year, in 4 years, where I have all categories in women’s singles. And they are relatively well stocked since they are hens of 4, 5 or even 9 for those under 17 years old. So at that level, it’s a satisfaction too”specifies Françoise Kaiser, president of RBC Verviers.
“The level was higher than last year”
“Last year, we weren’t as complete as that. There were only 3 of us in my category, whereas here, there are 5 of us and we were able to make a good group”says Nora from the Royal Badminton Club in Verviers. “The level was also higher than last year, there is more of a challenge here. I learned a lot”, completes Rose, another badista from the Verviers club.
As its name suggests, the tournament has an international scope. Young badistas came expressly from Sweden, Germany and even the Netherlands. A successful tenth edition for the Verviers club! He will still fight until next year to maintain and perpetuate his appointment in the calendar of young badistas!
