A Weekend of Sports, Remembrance adn Redemption: A Chat with Former Thouars Player Jean-Pierre Bernard
This weekend promises to be a whirlwind of competitive spirit and emotional tribute in Thouars as sporting action takes centre stage across multiple disciplines. To delve deeper into this exciting weekend, I’m delighted to be joined by Jean-Pierre Bernard, a former star player for the Thouars basketball team and a well-respected figure in the local sporting community. Welcome, Jean-Pierre!
Me: Jean-Pierre, the Saint-Jean sports hall is buzzing with anticipation for the 3×3 Tour 79. We see a full spectrum of age groups taking part, from the U13s to the senior teams. What excites you most about this event?
Jean-Pierre: Firstly, it’s fantastic to see so many young talents participating. It’s clear that basketball enjoys strong grassroots support in Thouars, and these tournaments provide invaluable experience for the future generation. Also, the inclusion of both men’s and women’s competition is vital for promoting gender equality within the sport.
Me: Absolutely. And sadly, this event also serves as a poignant tribute to Benjamin Thibaudeau, a former club member who passed away recently. How do you think this will impact the day’s atmosphere?
Jean-Pierre: It will undoubtedly be a day tinged with sadness, but also one that celebrates Benjamin’s life and his contribution to the club. I expect a respectful and emotional atmosphere, with players and spectators alike remembering the joy and passion he brought to the court.
Me: Shifting gears to volleyball, the UST volleyball 3×3 Passe à Thouars tournament has reached full registration capacity for the first time. This speaks volumes about the tournament’s popularity. Do you think this reflects a growing interest in volleyball in the area?
Jean-Pierre: I believe so. Volleyball has always been a respected sport here, but this surge in participation is very encouraging. It shows that the UST is doing a great job in organizing inclusive tournaments that cater to both licensed and non-licensed players.
Me: Let’s turn our attention to football. The Thouars reserve team faces a critical regional 2 match against Châtelleraudais d’Ozon on Saturday evening. What are your predictions for this encounter?
Jean-Pierre: This promises to be a closely contested game. Châtelleraudais d’Ozon are a formidable opponent, but I have faith in our reserve team’s resilience. They’ve been showing great betterment throughout the season, and I expect them to put up a strong fight.
Me:
The Thouars pennant team, simultaneously occurring, is seeking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats. They face a challenging away game against La Rochelle. Do you see this as a winnable match?
Jean-Pierre: It will be a tough test for the pennant team. la Rochelle are a tough outfit on their home turf, but our lads are known for their determination and fighting spirit. A strong team performance and a bit of luck could see them snatch a crucial victory.
me: on Sunday, FC Vrines travels to Saint-Sauveur for a regional 3 clash. What are your expectations for this regional derby?
Jean-Pierre: FC Vrines have been quietly putting together a solid run of results. This is a classic local derby, full of passion and intensity. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a tightly contested match with a potentially surprising outcome.
Me: Jean-Pierre, thank you for sharing your insights and predictions with us.
