Two teams chasing a victory who however have to deal with important absences in the starting lineup: Markel Brown – in addition to the long-term patient Reyes – for Trieste and Sokolowski for Sassari.
The red and whites then also had to give up Ross, due to a muscle problem, and for large stretches of Valentine, due to foul trouble, and, despite fighting until the end of the match, they were forced to give in to a Dinamo Sassari team pushed by their fans towards the victory.
THE MATCH
The news (Source LBA Press Office) – The hosts immediately try to take off, posting a 7-0 start all the result of the plays between Bibbins and the shooter Veronesi but Ross from the arc and a present Johnson in the paint do not do losing Trebizond to the guests against Bendzius and his teammates (11-10).
Subsequently, the triples of Ross and Uthoff are replicated with the same coin by Tambone and Bendzius, before Valentine and Ruzzier also join the festival from the Giuliani arc and cancel the effects of the free throws by Cappelletti and Renfro (23-22 ). At the end of an entertaining first quarter, Veronesi responds to Valentine from the arc and then Candussi scores at 27 after 10′ of the game with a nice tap-in.
With the energy of Boss and Ruzzier, Trieste manages to get ahead at 30-31 but Cappelletti responds to a concrete Uthoff and then another couple of accelerations from Bibbins give Dinamo some courage (39-38).
Even though Brooks, with a couple of personal initiatives and giving Uthoff and Campogrande the triples of the guest’s +4, tries to give way to a Julian attack, Bendzius and Veronesi send fundamental baskets from the arc that keep the amtch in absolute balance (49-48 after 20′).
After a back-and-forth at the start of the second half between centers Halilovic and Johnson, Fobbs and Bibbins show great energy on both sides of the pitch and together with Veronesi complete an 8-0 break in favor of Banco di Sardegna, interrupted by the offensive rebound former Brooks’ winner of 59-52.
Thanks to the energy of Ruzzier and Uthoff in the paint and a bomb from Candussi, which immediately canceled out the effects of a three-point play by Fobbs, Trieste gets back into close contact, then leaving the burden of equalizing the scores to Campogrande’s liberos at 64-64.
Triples from Fobbs and Veronesi subsequently kick-started the Sardinian attack but a three-point play from Ruzzier and a bomb at the siren from a great Candussi didn’t make the Giulians give up (73-70 after 30′). The big red and white player then sends a great basket from the arc, thus allowing Brooks and his teammates to cancel out the effects of a triple from Tambone and make it 76-76 with less than 8′ to go.
Sassari, however, continues to move the ball very well and to finish again with Tambone from distance and with Renfro under the scoreboards, then leaving the stage to the shooter Bibbins and the floater from Bendzius with the burden of breaking away from the guests at 86-80 with 5′ left from the end.
Subsequently, Brooks and especially Valentine fail some shots to bring Trieste and Sassari closer together and then it is perfect to punish the opponents especially with Renfro in the paint and the bomb of the bracket from a super Veronesi. It ends 98-86.
