A front page headline crossing a red line

In the midst of the political debate there is a typology of well-entertained characters that the newspapers use as a spear weapon against their enemies. They are aggravated people, or full of spite, who threaten to pull the rug. And yes, sometimes there is a reprehensible scum underneath, but too often behind their accusations and insinuations there is nothing but the hollowness of their rancor. However, the press that used them as leverage tended to maintain the minimum decency of respecting the presumption of innocence and reminding in the headline that it was a partial version. Well not anymore. The reason has crossed this dangerous red line with its Tuesday front page headline: “Koldo and Ábalos said that part of the commissions were ‘going to the party'”. In this sentence there is a fundamental element missing: the subject of the news, which is the businessman Aldama. And there is also a no less essential verb missing: diu. Writing it like this, it is no longer the commissioner who says what Koldo and Ábalos were saying, but the newspaper makes the statement its own. And therefore, and in my opinion, it would be susceptible to even receiving a complaint, however much the caption later suggests that it is a third-party interested version.

Víctor de Aldama enters to testify at the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Sanchista newspapers raise their shield and that’s it The Country com The Vanguard they write in their headlines that Aldama does not present evidence of his serious accusations. In this sense, theAbc it is more murri when it comes to making blood. “Aldama confesses that he collected ‘bites’ of 1.5% for the PSOE” is a headline that avoids the possibility of a lawsuit, although confess is a verb chosen with great cunning, since it presupposes truth. The truth is that, at this time, we do not know if Aldama really confesses or if he is just fabulating, inventing, intoxicating, lying, deceiving or lying.
