The Agudo City Council, in conjunction with the Ciudad Real Provincial Council and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, has taken the initiative to promote badminton in the province, especially among youth. For this purpose, a badminton school day was organized in the southern area of Ciudad Real for the 24/25 season, reaffirming the commitment of the authorities to the promotion of this sport. This event is emerging as a key strategy to enrich the sports and recreational life of the participating municipalities: Alamillo, Chillón and Agudo, and position badminton as a relevant sports option for new generations in smaller towns.
The competition hosted 42 participants, aged between 8 and 16, demonstrating the inclusivity and wide age range that badminton can encompass. All participants had the opportunity to compete in a format that included a preliminary group stage and subsequent knockouts, ensuring a fair and exciting level of competition. The matches were played in the best of three sets, with 21 points needed to win each set, which allowed the young athletes to demonstrate their endurance, technique and strategy in the game.
The event was not only notable for its competitive aspect but also for the sportsmanship and community spirit it fostered among participants. There were moments of intense emotions, quickly alternating between joy and sadness, evidencing the strong emotional commitment of young people to this sport. Furthermore, the awards ceremony reflected a balance in talent between the various participating municipalities, with a fair distribution of recognitions in different age and gender categories, which augurs a promising future for badminton in the region and an incentive for more Children and young people join in the practice of this demanding and exciting sport.
