Alcobendas recognizes its most outstanding ‘Master’ athletes | Society

The Paco de Lucía Auditorium of the Art Center of Alcobendas has hosted the Alcobendas Sports Awards Gala in the master category, an occasion to recognize those veteran athletes who have best represented the town over the last year, and who have stood out in disciplines such as athletics , cycling, fencing, horse riding, judo, karate, swimming, archery and triathlon.

The judoka Juan Luis Blanco was recognized as the Best Male Master Athlete 2024 after having been European champion, runner-up in the world and having obtained bronze in the Spanish championship; and the athlete Ángeles Luis Maroto won the award for Best Female Master Athlete 2024, in the last year she has obtained a bronze medal in the European 10km and half marathon and in the national 5,000 m outdoors. In addition, the Ecosport Triathlon club received the 2024 Special Master Award award, for its more than 40 federated women who are a reference at a national and international level.

Among the rest of the winners are several Spanish champions. In athletics, Juan Antonio Ramos stands out, Spain’s 50 km road record; Mónica Berrocal (heptathlon), Chala Defterali (pentathlon) and Magaly Vázquez (long jump); in swimming, Miguel Ángel Tristán and Óscar Rodríguez; in fencing José Olivares and Javier Alonso; in judo Guillermo Arranz and Marius Andei, or, in Karate, Ángela Mayoral and José Manuel Lara.

On the other hand, the champion agents of the last European Police & Fire Games, held in Portugal, were also awarded, a competition that brings together police and firefighters from across the continent to demonstrate their skills and capabilities. Carlos Merino won gold medals in swimming in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle; and, for their part, Sara Aguirre and Fernando Barroso took the gold medal in mixed padel (with Aguirre also winning gold in women’s padel).
