FIJLKAM Elects New Leadership for a New Era
The Italian Judo Wrestling Karate Martial Arts Federation (FIJLKAM) ushered in a new era at its 43rd Ordinary National Elective Assembly held at the PalaPellicone in Ostia. giovanni Morsiani emerged victorious in the presidential election, securing 54.84% of the vote against Ezio Gamba. Morsiani’s victory marks a notable shift in leadership for the federation,as outgoing President Domenico Falcone chose not to seek re-election.
Morsiani, who received immediate congratulations from CONI President Giovanni Malagò, expressed his gratitude to those who placed their trust in him. He highlighted the collaborative journey ahead, emphasizing the importance of respecting the diverse needs of the federation’s members while working towards a shared vision of growth and development.
The new president outlined his immediate priorities, stating his intention to thoroughly understand the complexities of FIJLKAM’s operations in order to effectively plan its restart for the upcoming Olympic cycle. Morsiani emphasized his commitment to ensuring the federation functions optimally and serves the best interests of its affiliated sports clubs.
The assembly witnessed a remarkable turnout, with 92.7% of eligible members participating. This high level of engagement underscored the significance of this electoral round, which saw a changing of the guard after falcone’s long tenure, marked by continuity with the previous leadership of Matteo Pellicone.
In addition to the new president, the assembly elected representatives for the federal councils of Judo, Wrestling, and karate. These individuals will play a crucial role in shaping the future direction of their respective disciplines within FIJLKAM.
The newly elected Board of Auditors, led by Demetrio Serra, will oversee the federation’s financial operations, ensuring openness and accountability.
Alessandro Saglietti, a prominent figure in the wrestling community and advisor to CUS Torino, was elected as the representative for wrestling managers. This appointment reflects Saglietti’s deep understanding of the sport and his commitment to its development within the federation.

Paolo: Well, one major hurdle is unifying the various disciplines under FIJLKAM. Judo, Wrestling, and Karate are distinct sports with different needs and priorities. Finding a balance that serves everyone effectively will be crucial. Additionally, securing funding and resources, especially in a competitive sporting landscape, is always a challenge.
Moderator: Those are certainly valid points.Morsiani has emphasized the importance of “respecting the diverse needs” of federation members.Do you think his collaborative approach will be enough to bridge divides and foster a sense of unity?
Paolo: It’s a positive start. Open communication and transparency are key. However, actions speak louder than words. Morsiani needs to demonstrate genuine commitment to all disciplines through tangible actions, like equitable resource allocation and opportunities for athletes from all areas. It’ll take time and consistent effort to build trust.
Moderator: You mentioned the importance of the upcoming Olympic cycle. How do you think Morsiani’s leadership will impact Italy’s performance on the international stage?
Paolo: It’s too early to say without a doubt. A lot depends on his strategic vision and how effectively he supports athletes’ development.
