MOCHA. In an emotional ceremony, the Espaillat Basketball Association (ASOBAE) began the second edition of the Women’s Superior Basketball Tournament, dedicated on this occasion to the company CoopProspera.
The tournament has the participation of six teams: the champions of San Sebastián, the runners-up of La Cancha, Don Bosco, José Horacio Rodríguez, Cayetano Germosén and the José Cruz League.
The president of ASOBAE, Lic. Ariel Vásquez, highlighted the importance of the support provided by CoopProspera, not only to men’s basketball, but also to this significant women’s event, which strengthens sports development in the province.
For his part, Edwar Faña, general manager of CoopProspera, expressed his excitement at seeing the enthusiasm of so many young women practicing basketball.
“In our budget next year we will continue to support this tournament so that it grows even more. I congratulate the parents present and ASOBAE for the effort they make for the benefit of youth,” he said.
During the opening ceremony, the representatives of CoopProspera, led by Edwar Faña, received a plaque of recognition from the ASOBAE executives, as a thank you for their invaluable support of local sports.
The activity, held on the Dr. Ruber Lulo Gitte roof, included a protocol act that included words of welcome from Governor Patricia Muñoz, the blessing by Congresswoman Marleny de Grullón, and the sports oath led by athlete Carmen Jiménez .
At the inauguration held in the Dr. Ruber Lulo Gitte indoor hall, ASOBAE, together with Patricia Muñoz, governor, Marleny de Grullón, deputy, and Edwar Faña, manager of Coopprospera, gave balls to each of the teams.
FIRST GAMES
The opening day culminated with two games, the first La Cancha defeated José Horacio 47×36 and the San Sebastián Champions 39×20 against Don Bosco, marking the beginning of this competition that promises to be a benchmark for women’s basketball in Espaillat.
