ASVEL won its seventh victory of the season in the Euroleague, winning 79-82 against Partizan Belgrade, who had won their last five European matches.

This makes two victories in three matches for the Betclic Elite clubs in the Euroleague this Tuesday evening. While Monaco easily beat Bayern Munich and found themselves co-leader with Paris, who fell at home against Real Madrid, ASVEL for its part pulled away to win on the floor of Partizan Belgrade. The task did not look easy against the Serbs, who had won their last five Euroleague matches, but the Villeurbannais, on the momentum of their victory against Paris last Friday, were able to overthrow Duane Washington’s Partizan (22pts, 8wt ). ASVEL started the match very well (2-11 then 11-16) and led by three points at the end of the first quarter (21-24), before taking an eight point lead in the middle of the second (27- 35). But the Serbs woke up and inflicted a 9-0 on their opponents, before returning to the locker room with a lead of six points (45-39).

ASVEL did not tremble

Halftime did good for Pierric Poupet’s men, who tightened the defense, equalizing at 58-58 before taking control at the end of the third quarter (65-66). ASVEL was then on good track, and was never led during the last quarter. Even if Partizan came back from -6 to -2 (76-78, 39th), the Villeurbannais did not tremble. No points were scored for 1’15 and Nando de Colo (two points) and Théo Maledon (free throws) finally sealed the victory in the final seconds. Maledon, definitely excellent this season, finished the game with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, while Joffrey Lauvergne added 17 points and 9 rebounds. ASVEL, which largely dominated in rebounding (41 against 29) is now 15th, with the same record as Partizan, and one success away from the play-in. Friday, for the last day of the first leg, Tony Parker’s club will pass a big test, at third place, Zalgiris Kaunas.

LVilleurbanne markers: Harrison (1), Lee (3), Maledon (21), Lauvergne (17), Ajinça (10), De Colo (14), Sako (9), Lighty (3), Black (2)
