The practice of sport at any age is welcome for all the benefits it generates. Mirta Trossero has done it for decades, in her case with judo, a discipline that at a certain point in Rafaela had several practitioners with a few successes at the regional and national level, but which over time was diluted because its instructors The projects could not continue.

Today, at 66 years old, it can be said that she is the only Rafaela judoka in official activity. It comes from participating in a training camp held at the Santa Fe Federation based in Rosario, special for the female veterans division. It was a preselection for the possibility of competing in the Pan American Games scheduled in Paraguay.

Their category is 65 to 70 years old, up to 78 kg and Mirta told us that “this year I went to the Apertura and then I couldn’t travel to the National that was held in Carlos Paz when I contracted dengue. “On the day of the competition I was hospitalized, then I was able to do the closing tournament, which is mandatory to be able to compete next year.”

In Rosario she had the chance to share the activities with other participants from Argentina and Uruguay, including a judoka qualified for the World Cup. It is worth mentioning that in this sport, at the age of 36 the competition for adults ends and they move on to veterans.

In her youth, Mirta competed for Independiente until she was 29 years old. «While I was single, I competed, which I really like. Two years I qualified as Santa Fe champion and went to the nationals. Then the years go by and you can be an instructor or dedicate yourself to refereeing, then I got married, had children, and later every so often I went to places that invited me,” she told us about those beautiful times.

Now she does Wushu and gymnastics for adults to try to be as physically fit as possible throughout the week, and then be better prepared when the exams are in Rosario. Well-organized planning, but above all great perseverance and perseverance that is worthy of recognition.
