“At PSG, I think I was at the peak of my career”

In an interview with RMC Sport, Neymar spoke about his time at PSG. Between the reception, his level, the tensions and the injuries, the Brazilian draws up a contrasting assessment.

While waiting to see the Brazilian’s talent on the pitch again, Neymar spoke at the microphone of RMC Sport in the company of Marion Bartoli and Benoît Boutron. Transferred to Saudi Arabia in 2023 to the champion club Al Hilal, Neymar is experiencing a far from optimal adventure with repeated injuries. Like an air of déjà vu unfortunately during his six years spent at the Parisian club. This is good since the Brazilian international returned to his transfer to the French champion in the summer of 2017.

Ups and downs in the capital

In 2017, PSG made perhaps one of the craziest transfers in history. For 222 million euros, the club offered the arrival of Neymar, an indisputable starter at Barça at the time. An XXL presentation for one of the most talented players of his generation. If the Brazilian took PSG to the final of the 2020 Champions League (lost to Bayern 1-0), his passage was marked by numerous injuries. Taken by some of the supporters of the Park, it is at PSG that Neymar admits to having been the most efficient. “My experience at PSG was good and bad at the same time… Good, because football-wise, I think I was at the peak of my career.” he explains before adding that the championship allowed him to write his story. “Playing in Ligue 1 was really a good experience, the fans were great with me. I wrote my story in Ligue 1, it was good for my career. I’m proud and happy to have been part of that. ” Unfortunately, the lack of success in the Champions League with the Parisian club had a profound impact on his performances. Especially as the years went by, the atmosphere became more and more tense.

Any regrets?

“Our relationship was no longer respectful, although I always respected them… It was a really complicated situation. I was sad by the way I was treated at the end, but it passed .” The idol, the unloved, Neymar has gone through all the emotions. Even more so when some supporters wanted to fight in front of his home. A situation that the Brazilian did not experience well. If these events are regrettable, Neymar admits to having no resentment towards the club. Good times and sad times; this is the assessment that the Al Hilal striker generally draws on the PSG chapter. Like a taste of unfinished business.
