Athletes of the year in Cuba

Havana, Dec 1st.- The best Cuban athletes of 2024 were released today in this capital, after computing the result of the vote of a poll conducted among several sports journalists of the national media.

The event hall of the Sports City was the scene of the press conference where the greroscoan gladiator and Olympic pentachampion Mikhaín López and the subtitle at the summer event in Paris and also a fighter Yusneylis Guzmán were announced as Best Male Athlete to the same prize in the female branch.

Wrestling and volleyball led as individual and collective disciplines, respectively, the canoists Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboy and Yisnoly Franchesca López did so in the non-individual event, pitcher Liván Moinelo among the athletes in contract and the ball dominator Erick Hernández in special sports.

The award ceremony will take place on December 13 at the Capital Coliseum itself, where the champion team of the Second World Baseball Cup for the Blind will also receive special recognition.

Best athlete in individual sport (female)

Yusneylis Guzmán López (Wrestling)

Best athlete in individual sport (male):

Mikhaín López Núñez (Greek-Roman wrestling).

Event of the year:

The conquest of the fifth Olympic gold medal of Greco-Roman wrestler Mijaín López (130 kg), a feat inscribed among the highlights of the 2024 Paris Games.

Most outstanding individual sport: Wrestling, a discipline that contributed the most medals (five) to the Cuban delegation at the Paris Olympic Games: 1-1-3. Fifth place by country in that fair.

Best athlete in collective sport (female):

Haila González Collazo (Baseball5), member of the world and pan-American champion team. Awarded as MVP of the universal contest.

Best athlete in collective sport (male):

Jorge Luis Alayo Moliner (Beach Volleyball), ninth place at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, winner in two phases of the Tour Norceca, several times on the podium of stops of the World Tour and first and third places in the National Championship of Russia, always together with Noslen Díaz Amaro.

Most outstanding collective sport:

Volleyball, monarch in the final four, the final six, the Pan American cup and the FIVB coup challenger, and 14th place in the world championship, in the room. Ninth seat at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Places one, two and three in stops Norceca and 17 in the world championship, in the beach mode.

Highlights:

Baseball5, World Cup champion, WBSC ranking leader and Pan American monarch.

Non-individual event:

Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboy (GTM) and Yisnoly Franchesca Lopez Lamadrid (VCL) (Canotation), eighth place in the C2 at 500 meters at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and seventh place in the C2 500 meters in the 2024 Szeged World Cup.

Erislandy Álvarez Borges (Boxing), gold at the Paris Olympic Games. Winner of two professional matches in the season.

Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboy (Rowing), bronze medal on the C1 200 meters from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Third place on the C1 at 200 metres and seventh in the C2 at 500 metres in the 2024 World Cup.

Luis Alberto Orta Sánchez (Greek-Roman wrestling), bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

Arlen Lopez Cardona (Boxing), bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Winner of the IBA professional world title, in one of the two such matches he prevailed in the season.

Milaymis Marín Potrillé (Wrestling), bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Gabriel Rosillo Kindelán (Greek-Roman wrestling), bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

Rafael Yunier Alba Castillo (Taekwondo), bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Leader of the world and Olympic rankings, Pan American champion and the Olympic qualifier.

Briandy Molina Elias (Baseball5), member of the world champion and pan-American team. Selled MVP at both events.

Noslen Díaz Amaro (Beach Volleyball), ninth place at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, winner in two phases of the Tour Norceca, several times on the podium stops of the World Tour and first and third places in the National Championship of Russia, always together with Jorge Luis Alayo Moliner.

Leyanis Pérez Hernández (Atletism), fifth place in Paris 2024. Silver medalist at the Glasgow 2024 Under Roof World Championship, Diamond League winner and owner of the second best mark of the year (14.96 metres).

Liván Moinelo Pita (Baseball), SoftBank’s star pitcher, reached the final of Japan’s Professional Baseball League. Leader in effectiveness in the Pacific League.

Erick Hernández Sánchez (Domain of the ball), set five Guinness records in the season.

Yaroyg Oños Gálvez (H.Abactical photo), Gold medal in Macroy Category and silver in Ancho Angle, at the World Championship based in Albania.
