Badminton aspires Government to build a roof in 2025 – El Nuevo Diario (Dominican Republic)

EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Badminton Federation (Fedombad) reported that among the important activities carried out in 2024 was the concentration of its athletes in a private site, and it hopes that the Government will build a pavilion for next season for the practice and skills of that discipline.

This was reported by Nelson Javier Ozuna, president of Fedombad, during a meeting with technicians and journalists to whom he presented a general account of the activities carried out in the year that is about to end.

“We hope that by 2025, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, will build us the Badminton House, a facility that we urgently need to be able to practice and hold competitions in a closed place,” he said.

Ozuna considered that it is time for Dominican Badminton to have its roof and hopes that the government, through the Ministry of Sports, can fulfill that request, since this discipline has obtained very good results at the international level.

«Badminton has achieved great achievements for the country, including Pan American, Central American and Caribbean medals, among other international events. For this reason, we must have a covered pavilion to be able to continue expanding the competitive level of our athletes,” highlighted the leader.

2025 Skills Program

The Fedombad announced the program of activities and competitions for next year, including participation in the junior Pan-American championships and the higher-level international championships.

“The federation will organize the Santo Domingo Open, a competition in which local and foreign players will see action,” Ozuna highlighted.

He highlighted that an international junior event will be held in the country and for which they are preparing to host all the local and international competitors who will perform therein.

In addition to the competitive aspect, Fedombad will implement development and training programs for technicians and coaches; and with the collaboration of the National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi) they will develop the “School Badminton” program.

“Badminton is one of the sports that can be introduced into schools more easily than other disciplines, and therefore I believe that it will be well used by the students of the educational centers where it is implemented,” said Ozuna.

Nelson Javier Ozuna indicated that for the international events, planned to take place in the country, adequate steps are being taken to give good treatment to foreign athletes in terms of lodging and meals.

«In the junior category it is our first event in which athletes from various countries will participate; In that sense we are organizing this event as best as possible to be able to host all those competitors.
