Scotties Secure Victory Over Spartans in High-Scoring Affair
The Ballston Spa Scotties emerged victorious in a thrilling matchup against the Burnt Hills-Ballston lake spartans, claiming an 82-65 win. Despite a strong start from the Spartans, the Scotties’ relentless offense proved too much to handle.
“after a couple of tough losses, we were determined to come out strong in this game,” shared Ballston Spa senior Connor Acton. “Games against Burnt Hills are always special because of the local rivalry, and we always aim to secure the win.”
Entering the game with a 0-2 record, the scotties were eager to turn their season around. Close losses to Saratoga Springs and Averill Park had left them hungry for a victory.
“There wasn’t a lot of pressure to get that first win,” stated Ballston Spa senior Michael Pritchard. “We’ve tasted victory before, and we know what it takes. It’s familiar territory for us.”
The Scotties’ offensive firepower was on full display, with Pritchard contributing 25 points and acton adding 23. This dynamic duo propelled Ballston Spa to an extraordinary 82-point performance.
While the Spartans managed to stay within striking distance for much of the game, the Scotties consistently found ways to extend their lead. Steven Fodera, who finished with 14 points, was notably impactful in the fourth quarter, scoring eight crucial points.”success comes from relying on each other, working together as a cohesive unit, not as individuals,” Acton emphasized. “We perform at our best when we operate as a team.”
Burnt Hills’ defense showed promise in the second quarter, limiting Ballston Spa to just 13 points. Though, the Scotties’ offensive onslaught proved too tough to contain for the remainder of the game. Ballston Spa scored 25 points in the first quarter and followed up with 22 points in both the third and fourth quarters.
Led by sophomore John Klopfer’s 23 points, Burnt Hills certainly had its moments, but Ballston Spa maintained control throughout the game. Gus fusco added 15 points and Grady Osterlitz chipped in with 11 for the Spartans (2-3 overall).
“We had to come together, remember that we’ve faced adversity before,” Pritchard reflected. “We’ve been through tough times, and we know how to stick together and trust each other.”
He added, “This victory wouldn’t have been possible without unity and trust in one another.”
