VEENENDAAL The badminton players from BC ‘t Veen played a draw against the students from Stuban on Sunday. The score was 4-4 away in Nijmegen.
‘t Veen is still missing Leon Wegen with an injury, Patrick Schriemer came in for him. Together with Wouter Fondse he played a strong men’s doubles, but the students won in three sets. “Perhaps there could have been a bit more, but in the third set the opponent was a bit stronger,” Dinja van Haastert reflects. The same applied to the women’s doubles with Jamie van Brienen and Van Haastert, which also went to the opponent in three sets.
As a result, the singles matches started with a 2-0 deficit. “There was also a three-setter in Wouter Fondse’s match. This time he won the match after coming back strongly in the second and third sets.” Schriemer also won his singles match, but a defeat followed for the ladies Van Brienen and Van Haastert.
‘t Veen then leveled the score in the mixed doubles. Van Brienen and Fondse played an exciting game, with both teams certainly close in the first two sets. “In the third set they played even more strongly, were able to take the initiative and thus won the win,” said Van Haastert. She also played a strong game with Schriemer. After losing in the first set, they took control of the match in the second and third sets. “We were clearly the better of the two and we were able to show the difference in level on the scoreboard.”
There was a 4-4 final score on the scoreboard and ‘t Veen remains third in the rankings, one point ahead of Stuban.
