Berlin and the North American Football League announced in a statement on Wednesday that the Berlin Olympic Stadium will host three NFL regular season games in 2025, 2027 and 2029.
Berlin’s Olympic Stadium will host a total of three NFL regular season matches in the fall of 2025, 2027 and 2029, the North American Football League and the German capital announced in a joint statement on Wednesday. The exact date of the 2025 meeting and the two franchises involved will be announced later. Germany hosted NFL games for the first time in the fall of 2022 in Munich at the Allianz Arena, between the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the sport legend, Tom Brady, in front of almost 70,000 spectators. In the fall of 2023, the Waldstadion in Frankfurt hosted two matches (Miami Doplhins against Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts against New England Patriots), and a month ago, the meeting between the New York Giants and the Panthers of the Caroline took place in Munich.
“Germany has a rich tradition with American football and the NFL has a history with the city of Berlin,” said NFL boss Roger Goodell. Built for the 1936 Olympic Games and renovated for the 2006 World Cup, the Berlin Olympic Stadium can accommodate 74,500 spectators. Since its renovation, the stadium has hosted the final of the 2006 World Cup and Euro-2024, the final of the 2015 Champions League as well as the 2009 World Athletics Championships. The NFL relocates season matches regular since 2009, first in London, then in Mexico (from 2016), then in Germany and more recently in 2024 in Brazil. Starting with the 2025 season, up to eight regular season matches can be played abroad. For 2025, two will be played in London, one in Madrid and one in Berlin. Other host cities could be announced later, the NFL said.
