Beatriz Souza, our Brazilian Olympic judo champion, is making history! After winning the gold medal in Paris and winning the Best Judoka of the Year award at the Olympic Awards in Brazil, she was nominated for the Best Judoka in the World award by the International Judo Federation (IJF). According to the federation, Bia was nominated for his “powerful technique and tenacity,” characteristics that have made him a “people’s hero” in Brazil.

Bia competes with other great athletes, but the IJF highlighted the strength, tenacity and charisma of the Brazilian, who is considered a true inspiration for the country. The other six Olympic champions in contention are Natsumi Tsunoda (Japan), Diora Keldiyorova (Uzbekistan), Krista Deguchi (Canada), Andreja Leski (Slovenia), Barbara Matic (Croatia) and Alice Bellandi (Italy).

Voting, which is open to everyone on the IJF website, will continue until January 10, 2025. The IJF Awards winners will be announced on February 2, during the Grand Slam tournament, the opening tournament of the calendar next year’s judo.

An incredible year

At 26 years old, the athlete from Itariri (SP) is experiencing an unforgettable year. In addition to the Olympic gold in the over 78 kg weight category, Bia also won a bronze medal in the team competition. Her performance earned her the title of Judoka of the Year at the Brazilian Olympic Awards and a nomination for Female Athlete of the Year, among other categories.
