Bidasoa Irun beat Atlético Valladolid this Friday, which arrived at Artaleku with only two points less, and, thanks to having played before others, sleeps in a podium position and qualification for the Spanish Cup. Now it is up to Ademar and Granollers to recover those privileges.

After having won the two previous games by the minimum, on this occasion the yellow team gained five goals in the final 32-27, but the sensations were similar, without ever being able to sentence the match. The Pucelano team was always annoying and lost by three with four minutes left (28-25). Also like in the two previous victories, Alex Mozas’ men managed the decisive part of the match well, this time without any danger of the points slipping away.

It is, since the 2018-2019 season, the sixth consecutive time that the Castilian team has been defeated in Artaleku, but they always do so by putting up a fight.

  • Every five minutes:
    2-2, 6-7, 11-10, 14-11, 14-12, 16-13 (rest); 18-15, 21-16, 22-17, 25-21, 28-24 and 32-27.

  • Referees:
Raúl Oyarzun and Aritz Zaragüeta, who excluded the locals Jevtic (twice), Mujika, García and the visitors Abdelazize (twice), Ferreira and García.

  • Incidences:
There was a toy collection for the Red Cross and a launch of stuffed animals during the break.

The match started with great success on the part of both teams. The goalkeepers only touched balls to get them out of the back of the goal and after fifteen minutes Maciel had a save and Bar, without any, gave his place to Forns, who would end up with ten interventions. However, it was Maciel who shone this Friday, with five stops in the first half (two from penalties) and no less than ten in the second, some spectacular and decisive in equal measure.

In the first part of the match the score grew a lot but without advantages beyond the two goals for Bidasoa and one, on three occasions, for Atlético Valladolid. 22 goals in the first quarter of an hour and only seven in the second, in which the yellow team escaped by four goals.

Five also at the beginning of the second half (several times from 21-16 to 24-19), partly thanks to Maciel’s 55% since the break (5 of 9), but without ever being able to have a feeling of tranquility or of dominated match. The yellow lead fluctuated between three and five goals in the last quarter of an hour and only once did the Pucelano team have the ball to get within two. Maciel stopped Abdelazize’s counterattack and in the same way Rodrigo Salinas scored 26-22, almost deciding the match. When he really was, Alex Mozas gave his debut to the youth Alex Raix, who debuted with a goal.

New sponsor

The Irundarra club took advantage of this Friday’s match to present a new sponsor, Naturklima. José Ignacio Asensio, president of the entity and deputy for Sustainability, was present in Artaleku for this reason.
