Where in the past Bloemendaal often starts the indoor season with a completely different selection, some names of the field team are now on the list. The most striking name is that of Floris Wortelboer, who became Olympic champion with the Dutch team in Paris last year.
Whether all those players will actually participate remains to be seen, but there is plenty of quality in the team. This became apparent during the first round of play on Sunday in The Hague. Bloemendaal opened the indoor season with a comfortable 0-10 win over HGC. Jasper Brinkman, who dropped out at a late stage for the Games, scored three goals. Lars Leistra, Gijs ter Braak and Wiegert Schut each scored two goals. Casper van der Veen completed the ten.
As easy as it was against HGC, it was just as difficult against Rotterdam later in the day. After Jan van ‘t Land had opened the score, Rotterdam walked away with three goals to a 1-3 score. In the space of eleven minutes, Bloemendaal again had an advantageous score. With three goals from Tobias Bovelander, one from Van ‘t Land and one from Ter Braak it had become 6-3. Rotterdam made it exciting with two goals, but Bloemendaal remained on the right side of the score.
HDM also managed to win their first two games. The indoor competition continues on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Bloemendaal will then play two matches in the De Beuk sports hall in Purmerend.
