BLSV wants to keep young women in sport

4.8 million people play sports in Bavarian clubs – more than ever before. As good as the numbers sound, young women in particular are increasingly turning their backs on sports and sports clubs. In order to stop this wave of resignations, the Bavarian State Sports Association is presenting a new concept at the ISPO sports trade fair.

The BLSV has set itself the goal of getting people of all ages and genders interested in sport. To ensure that young women in particular do not lose access to sport, the BLSV is cooperating with the Bavarian Ministry of Health.

At a round table discussing girls’ health, it was noticed that young women in particular often decide against continuing their sport, explained Bavarian Health Minister Judith Gerlach in an interview with BR24Sport. “That means that we don’t make enough offers that interest them at this age,” says Gerlach.

The BLSV wants to change that together with the Bavarian Ministry of Health. Young women have to be picked up where they feel comfortable – and that is not always necessarily in the competition area, said BLSV President Jörg Ammon in an interview with BR24Sport. For young women, the focus is not always on winning and losing – you can also get young women interested in sports in dance sports or cheerleading. At the end of the day, the goal is to keep people involved in sports and sports clubs in the long term.
