CLike three days earlier against Fos-sur-Mer (93-76), Boulazac Basket Dordogne alternated between good and bad on Tuesday, December 3, but the result is there. An 11th victory and now a provisional leadership position thanks to the success of Évreux, where the BBD will be on Friday 6, in Orléans (87-89).
This one got off to a flying start (10-0, 2nd), thanks to an insolent success. “We made a strong start to the match to make amends,” smiled Cyrille Eliezer-Vanerot. Everything was on track, the passing game was fluid and the Couramiauds’ clumsiness was glaring. Except, obviously, it didn’t last the entire match.
First, the Boulazacois started to get confused and went on alternating current, going from remarkable possessions to messy and imprecise play, from solid defensive stops to embarrassing oversights.
The opportunity was great for the Ligeriens to get closer, notably in the wake of the young Badr Moujib (20-15, 9th). In ten minutes, the Périgourdins had already lost six balls, their opponents intercepting three. The BBD widened the gap, again, relying on its outside skill (11/19 on shots from distance at half-time, against 5/17 for the visitors), while Saint-Chamond dominated the interior sector ( 15 rebounds at 12 and 16 points at 10 in the paint).
The frameworks in place
When Alexandre Ménard entered the rotations, his team was put in difficulty by a more homogeneous Loire ensemble. The managers had to get their hands on the ball again: Hugo Robineau, Angelo Warner, Marcos Suka-Umu, Ousman Krubally and Eliezer-Vanerot helped to regain the lead (41-28, 15th).
But Moujib, always, with Magrit or Kok put the pressure back on (46-38). The yo-yo on the scoreboard continued in the third quarter. And the toy rose high when Marquis Jackson caught fire, scoring seven points in the wake of the technical foul inflicted on a Robineau who was too quiet according to the referees (59-57, 28th), then Moujib intercepted a too easy pass from Warner (59-59).
So Clément Cavallo, like a good captain, took matters into his own hands and scored six points (68-62), relayed by Krubally (73-64, 37th) and a newfound defensive aggressiveness. The Ligiens ran into a wall and lost track of the end of the match: “We are not ready to play this kind of matches,” conceded Maxime Nelaton, the Couramiaud coach. The BBD showed that it was a solid leader by inflicting an 11-0 to offer itself a severe gap for the opponents. “Being a leader is good but it’s anecdotal. I don’t want to look at what others are doing,” said his counterpart, with a smile.
