Uzège Welcomes a New martial Arts Force: Uzège JJB
The world of martial arts in Uzège has expanded with the arrival of Uzège JJB, a dedicated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) club founded last September by Mark Soubaigné. After a period of operating within a judo club in Vers-Pont-du-Gard, Soubaigné and his team decided to establish their own independent space, giving birth to Uzège JJB.
Currently boasting around twenty members, the club offers training sessions four times a week, alternating between dojos in Uzès and Sanilhac-Sagriès (shared with an aikido club). While BJJ might not be a household name, it’s a dynamic combat sport sharing roots with judo and classic jiu-jitsu. As Mark explains,”It’s a sport that begins standing but frequently enough transitions to the ground. The goal is to immobilize your opponent, gain a positional advantage, and ultimately win by points or submission.” Similar to judo,BJJ utilizes a belt system to denote skill levels.
A Focus on Community and Inclusivity
Uzège JJB distinguishes itself by prioritizing a welcoming and inclusive training environment. “Our primary aim is to introduce people to BJJ in a kind and supportive atmosphere, rather than focusing solely on competition,” emphasizes the club’s leadership.
Despite this emphasis on camaraderie, Uzège JJB already boasts several talented athletes within its ranks, hinting at a luminous future for the club.
