Chacabuco Celebrates its Sporting Elite at the 37th Annual Sports festival
The Chacabuco Municipal Palace was abuzz with excitement on friday, December 27th, as the city hosted its 37th annual sports Festival. Organized by the dedicated Sports Directorate, led by Professor jorge Antonio Giménez, the event served as a vibrant platform to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary achievements of local athletes.
The evening’s highlight was the proclamation of the Athlete of the Year awards. Juan Ignacio Rubini, a rising star in the world of paddle tennis, was honored as the national Athlete of the Year, while Román Lonzo, a local soccer sensation, received the prestigious title of local Athlete of the Year.
Beyond these top honors, the festival recognized a diverse range of sporting disciplines. A total of 36 categories saw exceptional athletes crowned as champions.From billiards and pool to gymnastics and swimming,the festival showcased the breadth and depth of sporting talent within Chacabuco.
Notable winners included Ricardo Presa in billiards,Héctor aguilar in pool,Manuel Gianni in bowls,Bernadita Saini in acrobatic fabric,Josefina Pascual in sports gymnastics,and Héctor Triunfo in ball to paddle. The list continued with Daniel Falabella in shot, Rafael Stefano in chess, Jorge Romero in boxing, Ambar Marsiletti in tennis, Thomas Iriart in judo, Agustín Buss in MMA, Tiziano Pagano in taekwondo, and Mora Dos Santos in Patin.The festival also celebrated the achievements of athletes in Cross fit, swimming, athletics, golf, cycling, and various team sports like basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, and rugby. The event served as a testament to the city’s vibrant sporting culture and the dedication of its athletes.
As the evening drew to a close,the resounding message was clear: Chacabuco is a city that values and celebrates its sporting heroes. Juan, congratulations on this incredible achievement! For those unfamiliar with your sport, could you tell us a little about paddle tennis and what makes it so compelling?
Juan Ignacio Rubini: Thank you for having me. It’s an honor to be here! Paddle tennis,for those who haven’t experienced it,is an incredibly fast-paced and dynamic racquet sport,a blend of tennis and squash played on a smaller court enclosed by glass walls. the smaller court size and use of walls make for an incredibly exciting and unpredictable game, demanding agility, strategy, and lightning reflexes.
It’s fantastic to see such diversity in the MoustSports Festival this year. From the classic elegance of gymnastics to the high-octane thrills of MMA, Chacabuco truly celebrates all facets of sport. What are your thoughts on this inclusive approach?
juan Ignacio Rubini: It’s truly inspiring to see so many different sports celebrated together.this festival cultivates a sense of community and fosters respect for all disciplines. It’s a powerful reminder that athleticism comes in many forms, and every athlete deserves recognition for their dedication and hard work.
It must be incredibly motivating to receive such an esteemed award. What message do you have for aspiring athletes in Chacabuco and beyond, especially those just starting their sporting journey?
Juan Ignacio Rubini: Never give up on your passion! Sport requires dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace both triumphs and setbacks. Surround yourself with a supportive community, stay focused on your goals, and most importantly, enjoy the journey. Remember, the true reward lies in the love for the sport and the pursuit of excellence.
Thinking back on your own journey, Juan, what were some of the biggest challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Juan Ignacio Rubini: Every athlete faces challenges, whether it’s overcoming a tough loss, dealing with injuries, or simply battling self-doubt.For me, one of the biggest hurdles was building the mental fortitude to perform consistently under pressure. Through rigorous training, meditation, and the unwavering support of my team and family, I learned to channel my nerves into focus and determination.

We have excellent training facilities and dedicated coaches who nurture young talent and promote sportsmanship. It’s a sport that brings people together,and I’m proud to be a part of it.
