Sciacca Celebrates Sport and Unity at Revitalized Don Andrea Falanga Event
The spirit of sportsmanship and community shone brightly in Sciacca as nineteen local sports associations came together for a reimagined Don Andrea Falanga Sportsman’s Christmas. This revitalized event, a collaborative effort between the Municipality of Sciacca, Asd Discobolo, and Panathlon Club Sciacca Terme, showcased the unifying power of athletics, transcending social and cultural boundaries.
Held within the bustling “Nino Roccazzella” tent, the atmosphere crackled with shared passion. A diverse range of sporting disciplines were represented, including volleyball, karate, fencing, gymnastics, tennis, dance, and running, highlighting the breadth and depth of Sciacca’s athletic community. Notable participants included Volley Club Sciacca, Ippon Karate Lentini, Ginnic Club stadium, Polisportiva Agatocle, and many more.
The event wasn’t just about participation; it was also a celebration of achievement. The “Panathlon Sciacca Terme 2024” awards recognized outstanding individuals. Rising star Gaia Allegro, a Discobolo athlete, received accolades for her silver medal win at the Aerobics world Championships with the Italian national team.
A lifetime achievement award, named “Don Andrea Falanga,” was presented to enzo Barbera, a dedicated figure who has embodied the values of sport throughout his career as an athlete, coach, and educator. Barbera’s commitment to using sport as a catalyst for social and personal growth serves as an inspiration to the community.
The awards ceremony was graced by the presence of prominent figures in the sporting world,including Valeria Gulotta,the municipal councilor for sport,Pippo Simone vullo,president of Asd Discobolo,roberto Pregadio,governor of the Sicily area 9 of the Panathlon Club,Giuseppe Recca,president of the Panathlon Club Sciacca terme,and Antonella Attanasio,Coni delegate of Agrigento.
