They were champions in the Under 13 and Under 15 categories in a competition between teams from Chilean and Argentine Patagonia.

As champions in the Under 13 and Under 15 series, the two teams from the Astros de Coyhaique club returned from Caleta Olivia, after competing in a binational tournament in the Argentine town.

The championship was organized by the Municipality of Caleta Olivia and consisted of two home runs in both categories. In Sub 13, Astros faced in a regular round-robin phase against two clubs from Caleta Olivia and one from Comodoro Rivadavia and in Sub 15 with two clubs from Calera Olivia and one from Cochrane.

Mariana Alvear, Astros coach, explained that the two categories won all their games in the regular phase and the final was contested by the first two teams in the table; Thus, Astros had to face the Mosconi club in both finals.

In the Under 13 final, Astros won categorically by 66 to 42, but in Under 15 the situation was more complicated for the Coyhaiquinos. Mosconi was leading by 15 points, however, the Astros managed to react in the last quarter to win 53-50 in a spectacular turnaround.

Parental support

Mariana Alvear indicated that last September Astros organized a tournament where they invited the teams from Caleta Olivia and that the championship played in Argentina was the return of the hand.

The coach said that the trip to the coastal city in the province of Santa Cruz was possible exclusively because of the support of the children’s parents. Since it was not possible to finance a bus, it was decided to travel in the parents’ own vehicles and in Caleta Olivia the entire delegation stayed in a hostel.

“I am grateful for the support of the parents during the trip and the tournament, and they were our best support,” she said.

Regarding the experience, he noted: “these teams have been training together for two years and are already established. In the first semester they played the Development League in Puerto Montt. They showed a lot of determination and desire to improve in the games.

The Under 13 delegation was made up of the children Luciano Rodríguez, Martín Riveros, Diego Sánchez, Daniel Jara, Juan Pablo Saavedra, Lucas Mora, Pedro Pablo Durán, Darío Saldías, Mauro Caiguan, Luciano Caiguan and Bastián Catrilef. This team won all its games by a large point difference over the other teams.

The Astros Under 15 delegation was made up of Amaro Arancibia, Clemente Carrasco, Luciano Rodríguez, Agustín Jaramillo, Nelson Colivoro, Martín Riveros, Lucas Miranda, Gabriel González, Sergio Martínez, Pierre Marechal and Agustín Robles.

The Astros’ next task will be next January when they go with the Sub 5 category to Viña del Mar to play the tournament organized by the Spanish club of the garden city, while the Sub 13, Sub 15 and Sub 18 women’s series will play the League of Women’s Development in Puerto Montt.
